The Demon Slayer Movie: Mugen Train (Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train ) which directly took place after the end of season one of Demon Slayer. The movie was a total commercial success bringing in a total of $450 million to $500 million USD with a world wide box office total. The movie only cost a hilarious $16 million USD to create. The large majority of the total coming from none other it's home country of Japan with a staggering opening day total of $31 million and a gross total of $365 million in Japan. The Demon Slayer movie beat the long time record holder for best grossing movie in Japan; Spirited Away ($305 million from Japanese cinema) from famous Japanese Director Hayao Miyazaki. The amazing amount of money that Demon Slayer has brought in from the movie has probably caught the eyes of many Hollywood studios to keep their eye
s on the anime industry and what numbers it brings in. Although the amazing box office run Demon Slayer had should be no surprise to anyone who has kept their ear to the ground in the anime world. The numbers of manga and merchandise Demon Slayer has sold is record breaking. Demon Slayer while finished is still a new comer to the manga world debuting in early 2016 and finished up in May of 2020. The manga roughly had a 4 year run time and has managed to sell a jaw dropping 150 million print and digital manga in that run time. With the anime currently not airing right now those numbers will only jump right back up even more when season 2 airs. To put those numbers in perspective the best selling manga of all time One Piece has sold 490 million copies while still a large margin past Demon Slayer, One Piece debuted in July 1997 giving it a 20 year head start. Demon Slayer has managed to capture 30% of total manga sales compared to One Piece in only 4 years with the anime still set to air until finished. When ever new seasons come out manga sales usually sky rocket up.
So, it's anyone's guess where the numbers will fall at the end of Demon Slayer's anime run. What Demon Slayer has achieved in it's short time in the Japanese otaku world is amazing, but with the numbers it has brought in the executives of Hollywood might be taking more notes on how big anime and manga has become in the entertainment world.
